The FONST 1000 is small-sized intelligent OTN equipment. It uses the CWDM/DWDM platform design and supports multi-servicetransparent transmission technology, The FONST 1000 has abundant service access capabilities andflexible network capabilities.
The height is only 2u and eight slots in total, seven of which can be plugged with OTU cards
The FONST 1000 supports flexible configurations of CWDM/DWDM to meet therequirements of the access layer of MAN on network c- ost, transmission distance,and transmission capacity, etc
The FONST 1000 can flexibly bear multiple services, such as STM 1/4/16/64, GE/10GE, OTU1/OTU2 or SAN (Storage Area Network) and supports straightforward service expansion to adapt to future networks needs

The FONST 1000 supports various technologies including FEC co- ding, super FEC coding, and RZ modulation. These techvnologies promote higher design margins enabling ultra-long haul and ultra- long span section transport capabilities
Line-based and single-wavelength-based supervision of indexes such as power, dispersion, OSNR (Optical Signal Noise Ratio) and self-adaptive technology guarantees stable long term operation of the system
The optical layer of the FONST 1000 provides 1+1 optical channel and optical multiplex section protection and 1:1 optical line protection
The electrical layer provides channel-based and ODUk-based multiple service protection (1+1, m:n and ring network). Chain, ring and mesh networks can flexibly select protection modes so as to guarantee net- work security and reliability
The FONST 1000 also supports equipment level redundancy. For exa- mple, the power supply, the NE management and the electrical cross- connect units are all redundant. The intelligent fan unit has sufficient air flow capacity so that any single fan can be shut off for maintenance purposes and the normal working temperature of the system will be maintained
The FONST 1000 supports statistical analysis on performance parameters including optical power, OSNR and error rate. The system will generate reports and optimize them automatically
The system also provides capabilities such as automatic balancing of the channel optical power, automatic control of the line optical power and automatic compensation of the line optical power, and supports for card automatic discovery. These features significantly lower oper- ational costs and maintenance work load
The system supports standard G.709 interfaces and provides abundant OTN overhead for wavelength services. Besides the traditional OSC, it also supports the single-wavelength-based ESC supervisory channel. This resolves the problem of poor protection capability of the traditional WDM service network and weak NMS supervisory capability Incorporating the IAMS (integrated maintenance system), the FONST 1000 can make an overall analysis of the alarm and performance to isolate faults rapidly and precisely. The system can also give an advance warning of the possible degradation trend, to enhance the stability of the OTN network operation.
The FONST 1000 can design network topology, service route and equipment configuration conveniently by virtue of its network planning tool. The system can also simulate and analyze faults to support users in making decisions.
The FONST 1000 can access multiple services including SDH, Ethernet, SAN, OTNe FONST 1000 completely meets the requirement ontransmission of multiple services in access/edge layer of MAN/LAN, and has a big advantage over cost,capacity and scalability.
A hybrid network of the FONST 1000 and the FONST 3000/4000 can make up a complete OTN end-to-end network. Besides that, the FONST 1000 can also combine with the SDH/PTH or data equipment for a hybrid network. Such a hybrid networking can provide an overall solution for the transport network.
