FiberHome Philippines has recently entered into partnership with PLDT for PLDT’s Fibrization project. Fibrization is PLDT’s flagship project to deliver fiber fast speed to home subscribers over the existing copper facilities.
PLDT is the biggest telecom operator in the Philippines which holds around 71% of the fixed broadband market, of which 59% of the revenue comes from its NGN broadband network. All of the biggest operators in the Philippines are aggressively rolling out fiber, to offer high-speed broadband services to subscribers. For PLDT, the NGN broadband revenue amounts to more than 400M USD and is at the risk of penetration from competitors determined fiber rollout.
This project aims to protect the NGN market revenue, increase revenue from the upsell of tenured subscribers to fiber fast plans and revenue from value-added services, as well as capture more of the fixed broadband market ahead of the competition.
PLDT has allotted 40M USD budget to FiberHome who will handle the South Luzon and Visayas areas. The Fibrization project will run over a 2-year period to modernize the NGN broadband network of PLDT and provide service to over 1M subscribers.
To achieve fiber-fast speeds, PLDT will slowly phase out ADSL services and move forward to VDSL and G.fast offerings. FiberHome’s AN5220 micro MSAN and AN5516-06 yybrid MSAN will be employed for this project. Our MSAN equipment support both VVDSL, and VDSL2 35b Super-Vector which delivers speeds up to 350 Mbps; comparable to fiber facility subscriptions.
Fibrization project involves three (3) scenarios;
• DFA or direct-feed area, wherein the old MSAN in the central office will be migrated directly to FTTH
• XCC or cross-connect, wherein the cross-connect cabinet will be replaced and installed with MSAN equipment. This is to bring the equipment closer to the subscribers, limit the copper distance to support the high rates.
• FTTB or FTTC, wherein Hybrid MSAN is installed inside the building or on a cabinet on the curb to support both VVDSL or FTTH on demand

PLDT has held several workshops with FiberHome for the different PLDT zones nationwide for the implementation of the project.
