Zhejiang Mobile & FiberHome accomplishing SPN dynamic energy-saving deployment, promoting the construction of a low-carbon and intelligent premium networks

Recently, in order to effectively promote energy-saving and carbon reduction in the network, Zhejiang Mobile and FiberHome Communications completed the on-site deployment of the SPN network based on intelligent dynamic energy-saving technology in Jinhua. Network management data monitoring and on-site measurements indicate that after deploying intelligent dynamic energy-saving technology, the average power consumption of a single device has been reduced by 15.61%. Moreover, the SPN network remains stable without packet loss in various scenarios such as device failure switchover, primary and standby switching, and sudden traffic bursts. This validates that intelligent dynamic energy-saving technology can not only ensure network security and performance but also effectively reduce network power consumption, helping Zhejiang Mobile to create a low-carbon and intelligent premium SPN network.

In response to the goals of carbon peaking and carbon neutrality, China Mobile has proposed the establishment of the 'Three Abilities and Six Green' green development model. By the end of the 14th Five-Year Plan, companies plans to achieve a reduction rate of energy consumption and carbon emissions intensity of no less than 20%. The company aims to achieve a self-generated power saving of over 40 billion kilowatt-hours and control its own carbon emissions within 56 million tons by 2025. Energy-saving and emission reduction in network infrastructure are imperative for telecom operators, and green and low-carbon initiatives will also become an important aspect of the overall competitiveness of telecom operators.

Based on the above-mentioned goals, China Mobile Communications Group Zhejiang Company, in collaboration with FiberHome actively explored the application of Intelligent Dynamic Energy-saving Innovative Technology in the SPN network. The Intelligent Dynamic Energy-saving Technology combines the capabilities of existing devices to collect real-time traffic from network devices and, after analyzing relevant business aspects, dynamically puts the network to sleep to achieve energy-saving.

Firstly, intelligent algorithms were applied to perform real-time dynamic intelligent analysis of network business load variations and device resources. After assessing business security and performance risks, the system provides the optimal energy-saving strategy.

Secondly, the intelligent control system remotely manages the hypernations of relevant functional units such as device cross-panels, service panels, and optical modules, precisely adjusting the operating state of devices, ultimately achieving energy-saving effects.

Finally, the transmission workbench realizes network energy consumption management, supporting real-time monitoring of energy-saving states, visually displaying energy-saving effects through a graphical interface, and exporting energy-saving reports. It can also display data such as temperature, voltage, and power consumption for all devices in the entire network, supporting network-wide device map-based monitoring. This allows for anomaly ranking by city or region, facilitating network monitoring and operation.

According to pilot data calculations, after Zhejiang Mobile enables Intelligent Dynamic Energy-saving for the entire SPN network, it can save 1.055 million kWh of electricity per year, equivalent to reducing 1,052 tons of carbon dioxide emissions. The successful verification of the on-site deployment signifies a significant step for Zhejiang Mobile in the construction of a green network, accelerating the transformation towards a low-carbon, intelligent, and efficient ecological network. It also provides a typical case for the green transformation of operator networks, simultaneously advancing China Mobile towards its dual carbon goals.

FiberHome will adhere to the concept of innovative development and win-win cooperation, continuously engaging in joint innovation with customers and the industry. The goal is to further transform SPN into a green, low-carbon, intelligent, and efficient premium networks.
